AUSTWICK Settle 5 miles; Skipton 20 miles. Situated on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, this is arguably one of the finest areas for walking in the region. With limestone pavements and scars, caves and open moors, the area has a wealth of natural interest and there are wonderful cycle tracks and walks on the doorstep. Austwick boasts a local pub serving excellent home cooked meals and a country hotel for something a little more special, as well as a shop and post office for visitors' daily requirements. This quiet village is nicely off the beaten track, yet the market towns of Settle, Kirkby Lonsdale, Skipton and Kendal are all within easy driving distance. The Property: Austwick Hall Cottage This detached stone-built cottage was originally the coach house to Austwick Hall, an historic country house dating from Norman times and steeped in history. Guests are free to roam in the private Hall grounds which extend to 13 acres and include 10 acres of woodland rich in wildlife. The cottage retains many original features such as stone-flagged floors and exposed timbers and provides comfortable well-equipped accommodation full of character. Guests will appreciate the air of grandeur associated with the Hall, which was owned at one time by Sir John Yorke, Master of the Mint to Henry VIII and Edward VI. Accommodation Three bedrooms: 2 x double (1 with ensuite shower, washbasin and WC), 1 x twin. Bathroom with bath (shower over), washbasin and WC. Well equipped fitted kitchen and spacious dining area. Comfortable sitting room with multi-fuel stove and French doors to courtyard.
Amenities Full oil central heating and additional heating from multi-fuel stove in sitting room. Electric cooker, microwave, fridge, colour TV etc. Use of washing machine in laundry room at Hall. All fuel and power inc in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Ample parking. Large gardens and grounds, garden furniture and BBQ. One well behaved pet welcome. Sorry no smoking. Shop and pub 5 mins walk.

Jun 2007 | We had initially wondered if the coach house might be located a little too near the Hall but our concerns were completely unfounded as the position is superb. The garden and grounds of the Hall are wonderful - and to have unlimited access to these was a delight and a bonus. The immediate area is a walkers paradise. We went on a local walk the first day and thought we had died and gone to heaven when we saw literally masses of bluebells, primrose, cowslip, wild garlic and the jewel in the crown - bee orchids. The coach house was the ideal base for a very memorable holiday.

Apr 2007 | The cottage exceeded my expectations. It was extremely comfortable and very peaceful. The owner was helpful and welcoming: it was lovely to be able to walk in the extensive grounds. The location was excellent - we walked from the cottage in different directions; as keen walkers, there were many good walks to choose from of varying lengths. Also the pub in the village served very good food and was also within walking distance. We would definitely like to return!
